In case you're interested, MICHAEL RICHARDS babbled something like:
# Dear All.
#
# I'm sure that someone must have a good answer to this. I want
# to construct a scene which is intended to be lit as if it is set on a
# bright sunny day outside. I need a good deal of light in the scene to
# bring out the detail, but I am unsure of the amount of ambient light
# that is to be used.
# I can't seem to get the settings right, either the scene looks
# contrived where all the light is coming from the light source, or it
# seems to have been shot during an H-bomb exploding ....
# So if anyone has some useful tips for outdoor lighting I'd
# love to have them.
First, are you using a directional light as your key source representing the
sun? This will light pretty evenly, simulating the parallel nature of the
suns rays by the time they reach you and I.
Second, I'd suggest that you ditch ambient light. It will only contribute to
an overall cheezy-CGI look. Though it will take some experimentation, try
using another directional light pointing upward, using very low values,
to create the light that would be bouncing up off of the ground/floor. For
light bouncing off of brightly colored objects you could strategicly place
smaller colored lights. Just make sure not to over-do it.
Using fill lighting will help keep contrast in your rendering...ambient just
flattens it out.
# Thanks in advance.
# Mike.
